지난해 6월 착공식을 진행한 동화일렉트로라이트 미국 테네시 전해액 공장이 순조롭게 제 모습을 갖춰 나가고 있다. 완공되면 연간 전해액 생산량 8만 6,000톤을 확보하게 되며, 이는 동화일렉트로라이트의 국내외 생산 기지 중 최대 규모다. 따라서 동화그룹 모두의 이목이 집중될 수밖에 없는 상황. 북미 배터리 소재 시장을 선도할 테네시 전해액 공장의 공사 현황을 알아봤다.
동화일렉트로라이트는 공장 건설을 위해 2022년 하반기부터 약 1년간 프로젝트 기획, 부지 매입, 설계 및 인허가 단계를 밟아왔다. 총 4만 9,000평의 부지를 확보하고 2023년 6월부터 본격적인 현장 건설에 착수했다.
지난해 말까지 부지를 정리하고 지반을 다지는 등 토목 기초 공사와 철골 구조 공사를 했으며, 최근에는 철골 구조물 공사가 완료되고 지붕 공사를 부분적으로 진행했다. 1월부터는 철골 구조물 위에 외벽, 내벽, 지붕 등을 시공하는 패널 공사를 시작한다. 이후 설비를 구축하고 내장 공사와 마감 등을 실시할 계획으로 현재까지 당초 목표한 일정대로 순항 중이다.
테네시 전해액 공장은 오는 9월이면 업계 최초로 자동화 설비를 갖추고, 연 생산 능력 8만 6,000톤의 대규모 전해액 생산 기지로서 그 위용을 드러낼 예정이다. 북미 배터리 소재 시장을 선도할 테네시 공장 건설이 성공적으로 마무리되기를 기대한다.
The largest production capacity expected among domestic and overseas factories
The construction of Dongwha Electrolyte’s electrolyte factory in Tennessee, USA, which was launched in June, has been proceeding as planned. Once completed, the new factory will manufacture 86,000 tons of electrolytes annually, the largest production capacity among the company’s factories in Korea and abroad. No wonder it has drawn attention from everyone at Dongwha Group. Here are the latest developments in the factory construction.
Dongwha Electrolyte spent about a year, starting in the second half of 2022, to plan the project, purchase land, design the new facility and acquire permits. It secured an area of around 162,000 square meters, and launched construction in full gear in June 2023.
As of the end of 2023, the foundation was laid and a steel structure was built. So far, the project has been proceeding as planned. Recently the steel structure has been completed, and roof construction began. In January, panel construction on the walls and roof of the steel structure is set to begin. Afterwards, internal construction is planned.
Come September, the Tennessee electrolyte factory will become the industry’s first to have fully automated equipment to produce 86,000 tons of electrolytes annually and lead the battery materials market in North America. We hope the construction will be completed successfully.
