동화일렉트로라이트가 새로운 날개를 달았다. 미국 테네시 생산기지가 2024년 3분기 내 준공을 목표로 본격적인 착공에 들어간 것이다. 북미를 무대로 이제 막 태동을 시작한 미국 테네시 생산기지를 주목하자.
더욱 굳건해지는 동화의 경쟁력
동화일렉트로라이트가 6월 6일(현지 시각) 미국 테네시 생산기지 착공식을 진행했다. 이날 행사에는 동화그룹 승지수 부회장과 동화일렉트로라이트 이시준 사장을 비롯해 빌 리 테네시 주지사와 스튜어트 맥홀터 테네시 경제개발부 장관, 조 피츠 클락스빌 시장, 웨스 골든 몽고메리 카운티 시장 등 양국의 주요 인사 및 동화일렉트로라이트 임직원이 참석해 자리를 빛냈다.
7,000만 달러 이상이 투입되는 이번 생산기지는 미국 중남부인 테네시주 클락스빌에 조성된다. 연간 생산량은 8만 6,000톤으로 국내외 생산기지 중 최대 규모이다. 더불어 수요 증가에 따른 증설 및 투자 확대도 계획 중이다. 테네시 생산기지가 완공되면 국내외 생산기지에서의 전해액 연간 총 생산량은 2025년 기준 약 15만 톤 이상으로 전망하고 있다. 테네시 생산기지는 2024년 3분기 내 준공을 목표로 하며, 시생산은 2024년 4분기에 돌입할 예정이다.
이시준 사장은 “미국 내 첫 전해액 공장인 테네시 생산기지 건설을 성공리에 완수할 수 있도록 만전을 다하는 한편 북미 배터리 소재 시장에서도 당사의 역량을 선보일 채비를 할 것”이라며 “글로벌 생산 능력을 비롯해 핵심 첨가제를 자체 개발하고 양산한 R&D 역량과 기술력을 바탕으로 시장 우위를 선점하고자 노력할 것”이라고 밝혔다.

Dongwha Electrolyte launched the construction of a factory in Tennessee, USA, on June 6. The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by Dongwha Group Vice Chairman Seung JiSoo, Dongwha Electrolyte CEO Lee SiJun, Governor of Tennessee Bill Lee, Commissioner of Tennessee Department of Economic & Community Development Stuart McWhorter, Mayor of Clarksville Joe Pitts, Mayor of Montgomery County Wes Golden, as well as Dongwha Electrolyte executives and employees.
Dongwha has invested over 70 million dollars in the construction of the Tennessee factory in Clarksville. It will manufacture 86,000 tons of electrolytes annually, the most among Dongwha’s domestic and overseas production bases. Once the Tennessee factory is built, Dongwha Electrolyte will have production bases in Asia, Europe and the Americas, while its overall annual production capacity at all domestic and overseas production bases is projected to surpass 150,000 tons by 2025. The Tennessee factory is slated for completion in the third quarter of 2024. Pilot production is to be launched in the fourth quarter.
